Prof. Dr. Sanne Taekema

Sanne Taekema is Professor of Jurisprudence at the Erasmus School of Law in Rotterdam. After a year of liberal arts education at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, USA, she studied law and philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. She earned a PhD from Tilburg University with her dissertation on ideals, which was published in the Kluwer’s Law and Philosophy Library (The Concept of Ideals in Legal Theory, 2003).

Her teaching at the Erasmus School of Law ranges from the first year bachelor’s introductory course on law and a third year course on legal methodology to master’s courses on legal theory and legal research. Her research interests include general issues of legal theory, particularly the role of values in jurisprudence and legal pragmatism, law and literature, and legal methodology with a focus on interdisciplinarity.

She is chair of the Dutch association for legal philosophy.
